5 YEARS AFTER SPINE SURGERY

Mr. Midha is Living Pain-Free and Fully Active

At the Department of Ortho – Spine Surgery, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, our mission goes beyond treating spinal conditions—we strive to restore our patients’ confidence in life and movement. Today, we are proud to share the inspiring 5-year follow-up story of one of our patient, Mr. Midha, who came to us in 2014 with severe spinal issues. Today, he is pain-free, fully active, and enjoying a normal life without any spine-related problems.

In 2014, Mr. Midha presented with:

  • Persistent lower back pain
  • Radiating leg pain caused by nerve compression
  • Difficulty walking due to lumbar canal stenosis and radiculitis
  • Symptoms of neurogenic claudication, severely affecting daily activities

“He was diagnosed with L4–L5 Grade I Spondylolisthesis with scoliosis and bilateral lower limb radiculopathy—a condition in which the forward slippage of one vertebra over another, along with spinal curvature and nerve compression, causes back pain, leg pain, numbness, weakness, and difficulty walking.”

On 6th October 2014, Mr. Midha underwent advanced spinal surgery to address his condition. The procedure included:

  • L3–L5 posterior spinal fixation with an L3–L4 transition rod
  • L4–L5 TLIF (Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion) on the left side
  • Use of autologous bone graft and an expandable cage, performed under general anaesthesia

This surgery was carefully planned to decompress the affected nerves, stabilize the spine, and restore natural spinal alignment.

  • Midha experienced immediate relief from both leg and back pain
  • He resumed independent walking without any support
  • His spine healed in proper alignment with no neurological deficits

Regular follow-ups over the years confirmed:

  • Solid and stable spinal fusion
  • No recurrence of symptoms
  • Excellent functional and mobility outcomes

Clinical evaluation confirmed that his spinal fusion remains solid, alignment is stable, and his neurological function is fully intact.

Dr. Shankar Acharya’s Perspective

“Mr. Midha’s journey is a true testament to what precise diagnosis, advanced surgical planning, and dedicated follow-up care can achieve. At our center, we focus on delivering long-term results—not just temporary relief. Seeing him pain-free and fully active after five years is the most gratifying part of our work.”
